Tuju Walks 57 Kilometers from Karen to Kijabe Hospital, 16 Months After Road Accident

Jubilee Party secretary-general Raphael Tuju on Sunday walked 57 kilometers from Karen Hospital to Kijabe Hospital to raise funds for theatre and ultrasound machines.

This comes 16 months after he was involved in a road crash after his car collided head-on with a 14-seater matatu at the Magina area along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway.

Tuju was heading to Kabaraka, Nakuru County, to attend the burial of the late former President Daniel Arap Moi, when the accident occurred.

He was rushed to Kijabe Hospital where he received emergency treatment before being airlifted to Karen Hospital.

Through the charity walk, Tuju was aiming to raise Sh14 million for the purchase of the equipment for Kijabe Hospital’s Trauma Centre.

"What we are doing on Sunday is not easy because I still have knee issues because I broke the right leg as well and I am not any younger,” Tuju said ahead of the walk.

He added: “I am paying tribute to God for saving me from the accident. For a long time, I was not able to walk. When I left the hospital one of the prescriptions I had was a wheelchair, in fact, I left the hospital in a wheelchair. There was a 50/50 chance I would walk again.”

He began the walk at 2:00 am and arrived at Kijabe Hospital at around 12:30 pm.

Along the way, he was joined by other leaders including Governors James Nyoro (Kiambu), Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga), and Cabinet Secretaries Amina Mohamed (Sports), and Joe Mucheru (ICT).

Contributions towards the cause can be made through MPesa pay bill number 512900.

What is this nonsense after the likes of Waiguru stole all the money to improve hospitals during Covid? How about making this equipment available in every Trauma center?
