Ruto Promises Free Diapers and Sanitary Pads If Elected President

Deputy President William Ruto has made 10 key promises to Kenyan women if he ascends to power after the August 9th general elections.

Ruto, who is eyeing the presidency on a UDA party ticket, outlined his plan for women during the Kenya Kwanza Women charter conference at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi on Friday.

He said his administration will provide free diapers for new born babies for three months under the enhanced National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) cover.

"All mothers to be supplied with diapers for the first three months if Kenya Kwanza takes government," said Ruto.

The deputy president also pledged to implement the elusive two-thirds gender rule within the first 90 days of his presidency and allocate 50 percent of cabinet slots to women.

“Within three months of the Kenya Kwanza rule, we will put a mechanism to actualize the two-third gender rule and immediately operationalize that mechanism so that women don’t have to wait longer,” he remarked.

To empower women economically, Ruto said 50 percent of his government’s Sh50 billion Hustler Fund will be reserved for women. His administration will also offer incentives for women to excel in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and, set up a special institute at the Kenya School of Government to build the capacity of women in leadership.

"All women with deals in AGPO [Access to Government Procurement Opportunities] will be automatically given an opportunity," Ruto said.

In addition, the Kenya Kwanza regime will launch the Hustler Health Care that will give every woman a NHIF health insurance card free of charge for indigent women and at affordable premiums commensurate with one’s income for the rest of the women.

Other promises include free sanitary pads for all girls, school feeding program for eight million pupils, and an automatic bursary for teenage mothers who return to school, and children of single mothers.

Kenya's current external debt is 8 trillion schillings against a GDP of 10 trillion schillings. The 2 surplus trillion has to be shared with county governments. Unless Ruto taxes wananchi every time they breathe, where will the funding for all these promises come from? Kumbafu!

The very campaign of this Dr Bhangi is a serious danger to the mental health of our youth. His campaign slogan should be that he will bring addiction, suicidal ideation and pyschosis to our youth. What a disgrace. Am sure that his children would not be the first to consume this pyschosis producing drugs. Why then does he think its okay to open his mouth and confuse the wananchi. What an utter disgrace.

@mlandizi it's all lies and that's what Ruto do best. I hope we all remember free laptop. Where do you begin free diapers or healthy care? Is he going to give free diapers to a hungry mother and expect to uplift their life?

@Bmore, come on its not just Ruto, Raila is giving people free money, free education- from diapers-to university, and free baba care, he means Obama care because everthing Raila is a copy cat. Remember: Pentagon, Capital hill- he even places his hand on the heart during singing of national anthem because Americans do it. Very crazy! This two idiots burned Gikuyus alive in a house of God and nobody has ever brought justice to those brothers and sisters. But don't mind all that- the train wreck is just around the corner!

You are right Mlandizi. The Kenya government has been chocked by exorbitant borrowing which is embedded with corruption by Uhuru government. Recently the government went to court to appeal its ruling allowing the SGR contract made public. Obviously the government is hiding something. Yet the official opposition party leader who is on tax payers payroll and supposed to be helping the public uncover such corrupt has his hands into te the jar.
Despite the big debt, I think sanitary pads are essential especially when it comes to women health issues. The government needs to help with the supply the pads to only those that cannot afford.
With ultimate budget, free sanitary pads cannot run down a well managed economy. That’s unless it’s compounded with the same corruption as is witnessed in the second term of Uhuru/ Raila government.

This behavior of Kenyans calling people names! Eish! Tho! How did you know Ruto was a thief kama wewe ukuiba? Look, Women need the pads, it is a health concern, diapers are needed so we can stop seeing children with no diapers on the streets. At least he cares about something! Let us give him a chance. How many chances are we giving Raila really... tooooooooo many. Enough for now!!

Surely Ruto can lie. The country is in debt but he keeps promising free stuff instead finding ways to tackle the debt burden. Hutu Mwizi is foolish sana.

Free diapers for infants; free sanitary pads for women; and what do you have for men? Wheel barrows? Tell us before we cast our votes.

Ruto need to wear a diaper is his huge mouth and shut up. Kenyans need to practice population control and not be popping kids like rats. No wonder population is getting out of control in kenya.

Ruto is a short sighted politician. He is promising free diaper when we need to be limiting birth rates. Why not promised better sex education to avoid population explosion?

Most of those who are having illegitimate children are the poor and can’t even afford food and housing even if they are given free diapers.

Muite (not verified)     Fri, 06/10/2022 @ 02:01pm

Feeding eight million school age children is not the right solution because it will compound the debt burden in kenya. Kenyans need to start rationing so we can pay the current debt before we get hit by crises which can cause China to colonize our country.

Everyone promising free stuff. Nothing is free but taxpayer or donor funded. UK imposed taxes soon after taking over but no one complained until poverty increased and borrowing for projects started to hit.
Grow the economy so ppl can have income. Russia and Ukraine export bulk of wheat and corn. Why is all Africa crying over this instead of producing affordable products?

Politicians take their citizens for granted🤭
Brother Samoei, please don’t think that we forgot the promises you gave to our school students in 2013 about giving them free “LAPTOPS.”

@Imara Daima, WSR thinks getting diapers and sanitary towels will get women voting for him. These women and girls are thinking of big stuff from what I see. Yes, what happened to the laptops and stadiums he promised? That is the big❓.

Girls are very progressive in kenya. The women are being offended by Ruto for promising them pads and diapers while the progressive women are counting on high tech jobs instead of Ruto’s pettiness.

Both Ruto and Rigathi have a serious problem with Kenyan women. They both continue to insult women at will. It all goes to show what Ruto think about women in general - menstration!

The women are loudly asking what Ruto and Rigathi have been smoking lately.

Mr DP, Kenyans can't be fooled for that long time. Have fulfilled any promise since 2012? So why add promises on top of promises? Why can't you just let us lead a normal life ile tumezoa?

Kenya 🇰🇪 is more than giving diapers as handouts. There is monumentous work to be done to rebuild the shattered economy and that includes cutting down the birth rate in kenya.

Kenyans can’t keep bearing kids every where without a means to support them. There is more into having a child than mere free diapers provision. Stop misleading Kenyans Ruto. Wewe tapeli mjinga. Stop your nonsense William Ruto.

Amy (not verified)     Sun, 06/12/2022 @ 11:58am

Ruto’s sick mind is always in the gutter when he thinks about the good women of kenya. Any man who addresses women in terms of diapers and pads is very sick in his head.

Ruto’s demeaning thinking of women is the reason why Rigathi is insulting the PCEA women gild by telling them to go collect the used police uniform.

It’s such a shame that in 21st century Ruto can be holding women with his low political esteem. It’s quite shameful indeed.
