Police Nab Cultivated Bhang Worth Sh1 Million in a Six-Bedroom 'Greenhouse' in Eldoret

Police in Eldoret are searching for a suspect who converted a six-bedroom house in the posh Elgon View Estate into a ‘greenhouse’ for marijuana farming.

Accompanied by the area local chief Sammy Meli, police officers raided the Bungalow House plot No. 810 and upon gaining entry, they discovered two buildings that had been converted into a greenhouse to grow the illegal drug for personal or commercial purposes.

A total of 129 trees of the cannabis plant were found, including 21 in the main bedroom, 68 in the sitting room, 14 in the dining room, and 26 in an adjacent iron sheet-walled house.

“All the plants were uprooted after having been documented by DCI Scenes of Crime personnel, the plants weighed 33.5 Kgs with a street value of about one million Kenya Shillings,” police said in a report.

Personal documents in the name of Kipchumba Michael Kibet, who police believe is the main suspect, were recovered during the operation.

An abstract of loss of KCSE certificate, national identity card no.27883026, copy of KCSE result slip, Moi university student clearance report dated 22nd August 2020, and a payment slip in respect of chemicals bought by Kibet were also recovered.

Police have appealed to members of the public for information that can lead to the arrest of the suspect, who is on the run.
