IEBC Suspends Elections for Rongai MP After a Ballot Paper Mix-Up

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has suspended elections for Rongai parliamentary seat until further notice.

Nakuru County IEBC manager Joseph Mele said the suspension was occasioned by a mix-up in ballot papers, with some polling centres missing the ballot papers for the MP position.

Incumbent Rongai MP Raymond Moi protested the suspension, saying it is a demonstration of how incompetent and unprepared the electoral commission is for the elections.

“The candidates who were vying to be members of parliament for Rongai were not on the ballot papers… This is amazing and incredible because on many occasions, Chebukati has assured Kenyans that he is ready to run these elections but that does not seem to be the case. I am very astonished,” said Moi.

Moi, who is the son of the late former President Daniel Moi, is one of the three candidates in the Rongai parliamentary race.

“If they schedule the elections for another day, the turnout will be low and will not be on the same playing field… that will affect the outcome,” he added.
