Jitters in Azimio After Gachagua Hints at Secret Raila-Ruto Meeting

Azimio leaders are set to meet and evaluate Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's recent comments about a supposed agreement between President William Ruto and Raila Odinga that excludes Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

In a statement on Wednesday, Kitui Central Member of Parliament Makali Mulu disputed Gachagua's remarks and stated that they would investigate whether there is any evidence to support the assertions or if they were just political rhetoric. According to Mulu, if there is indeed an agreement between Raila and Ruto, Kalonzo's allies from the lower eastern region will oppose it and push for their own demands. Mulu also criticized the DP's approach to winning over the region and faulted him for revealing details of talks between Ruto and Raila in breach of an agreement made by the bipartisan teams representing the two leaders.

"We did not take it kindly, and you could see even the reaction of the people. He should have mourned with our colleague and then maybe pleaded to have us move to their side. We pay taxes to this government, and we will be demanding to get a fair share of these taxes," the lawmaker said.

The Member of Parliament (MP) demands an apology from Gachagua for condemning the Kamba community's support for Azimio. On Tuesday, Gachagua blamed the Azimio leader for giving prominence to his own interests in a deal brokered in Mombasa. Additionally, Gachagua mentioned that Raila Odinga and Ruto had met without involving Odinga's ally Kalonzo Musyoka, further claiming that the meeting ignored problems affecting Ukambani. The bipartisan discussions led by Musyoka to work out an agreement with the government were deemed pointless by Gachagua. At present, Odinga and Musyoka have not commented on the accusations levelled by the Deputy President.

“Nothing will come out of those talks. It is a waste of time. I’m telling you as Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya," Gachagua claimed.
