Governor Mwangaza's Husband, Sister Interrogated in Blogger Sniper Murder Case

Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza's spouse Murega Baichu and her sister Miriam Guantai have provided statements to the police regarding the homicide case involving blogger and political activist Daniel Muthiani, also known as "Sniper".
On Monday, Baichu and Guantai were summoned by detectives to the DCI headquarters in Meru where they spent the entire afternoon providing information about the murder. Eastern Region DCI coordinator Lenny Kisaka confirmed that they had given their statements and that the investigation is ongoing. He assured the public that updates would be provided as progress is made. Sources revealed that Ms. Mwangaza joined her family at the DCI county headquarters at around 2 pm, following her Sunday service at Baite Family Fellowship church.
Throughout the afternoon, the homicide investigators, led by Director Mr Martin Nyabuto, interrogated them. It wasn't until after 7 pm that they finally left the premises. In addition to them, two unknown individuals also provided their testimonies. This new development has now implicated Mr Baichu and Ms Guantai in the ongoing investigation to unravel the mysterious murder. Currently, Mwangaza's brother, Murangiri Kenneth Guantai is being held at Kiambu Law Courts. The detectives have requested a 21-day extension for his custody alongside 5 other suspects. These individuals consist of Kenneth Mutua Matiri, Fredrick Muriuki Kiugu, Franklin Kimathi, Timothy Kinoti Murangiri, and Vincent Murithi Kinoti.
On January 17, the court will announce its decision. Meanwhile, three other individuals, DJ Kaboom (Boniface Githinji Njihia), Brian Mwenda, and Grace Kathambi Githinji, have been detained for 21 days while the investigation continues. Muthiani disappeared on December 2, 2023, and his body was discovered on December 16 near the Mutonga River in Tharaka-Nithi County. The chief government pathologist, Johansen Oduor, conducted a postmortem on December 22, which revealed that the blogger had been tortured and strangled. As the investigation unfolds, it has been revealed that certain individuals, in an apparent attempt to cover up the murder, misled the family by falsely claiming that Muthiani had been found in Kajiado County.
In the midst of all this, the investigations have taken a political turn, with Ms Mwangaza asserting that her close associates are being falsely accused of murder. During a sermon at her church on January 7, Ms Mwangaza emphasized that the blogger's death has been politicized and urged the investigating agencies to remain impartial. She claimed innocence, stating that the recent arrests of individuals close to her were a result of the previous general election. Furthermore, on January 6, authorities searched for evidence at her official residence.
