Parents to Use E-Citizen for National School Fee Payment

A new directive from the Ministry of Education mandates parents and guardians to utilize the eCitizen system for school fee payments, specifically for children in national schools.
This initiative, outlined in a circular from Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang on January 31, 2024, aligns with the government's push to streamline payment processes through the common pay bill number 222222. Under the directive, parents and guardians are required to make fee payments exclusively through the eCitizen platform, leveraging the government's efforts to enhance service delivery. The collaboration between the e-Citizen directorate, the Information Communication Technology Authority (ICTA), the Ministry of Information, Communication and the Digital Economy, and the National Treasury aims to onboard all government services onto the eCitizen platform.
In support of this, national school principals are directed to furnish their institution's bank account details to facilitate the enrollment process. The gathered financial information is to be submitted to the office of the Director General, State Department for Basic Education, by February 6, 2024. Once the bank account details are compiled, the government will issue further instructions on the school fee payment process. Parents and guardians are urged to ensure compliance by adhering to the eCitizen platform for fee payments.
To streamline the collection of necessary details, submissions to the Office of the Director General should be made promptly before the February 6 deadline. Submissions can be sent via email to dg@education.go.ke, with a copy to sa.basic@education.go.ke. This initiative, aimed at expanding eCitizen's user base, targets both existing users and potential new users, striving to reach a broader audience beyond the current 11 million individuals benefitting from the service daily. The directive to consolidate pay bills in June 2023, issued by President William Ruto, was a proactive response to corruption concerns stemming from face-to-face interactions in government offices.
