Kirinyaga MP Offers Lifeline to Student Falsely Accused of Murder

Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina has extended a generous scholarship opportunity to a Form Three student who endured the trauma of being falsely accused of committing murder.

This benevolent gesture was announced during a bursary event held on Saturday, April 20, where the student, who attends Kanjo Secondary School, recounted her harrowing ordeal and the challenges she faced in continuing her education. The student's plight began in 2019 in Muranga County where she encountered a gravely ill child accompanied by her younger sibling on her way home from school. Acting swiftly, she offered assistance and promptly informed the child's parents. Tragically, the child passed away while receiving medical attention.

In a devastating turn of events, the deceased child's mother wrongfully accused the student of causing the child's demise, leading to her arrest. Despite presenting her account of events to the authorities and providing evidence of her innocence, the student found herself overwhelmed by the weight of the false accusations. This forced her to make the difficult decision to abandon her studies temporarily. Seeking solace amid her challenges, the student embarked on a new chapter by getting married and becoming a mother.

However, her desire to continue her education remained steadfast. Recognizing the importance of pursuing her aspirations, she made the courageous decision to relocate to Kirinyaga County where opportunities for scholarships offered by the Member of Parliament presented a glimmer of hope. The student sought a foster parent in Kirinyaga who welcomed her and provided the necessary care and support. Additionally, she had the fortune of encountering the deputy principal of Kanjo Secondary School who championed her educational journey.
