Meteorological Department Warns of 5°C Nights in Parts of Kenya

The Kenya Meteorological Department has cautioned citizens to prepare for extremely cold nights with temperatures dipping as low as 5°C over the next few days.
According to the forecast, residents in Nairobi County and the highlands east of the Rift Valley should prepare for unusually cold nights. Initially, nighttime temperatures will remain around 8°C for two days before further declining to 5°C for the subsequent three days. This cold spell will affect counties such as Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka.
The Northwestern region, particularly Turkana and Samburu Counties, will face extreme heat during the day. Daytime temperatures are forecasted to reach a maximum of 36°C. Other areas expected to experience similar high temperatures include Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo. However, the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, including counties like Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, and Kakamega, are likely to receive showers.
The Lake Victoria Basin, encompassing Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, and Nyamira, is also expected to experience wet weather. Additionally, parts of the Rift Valley such as Trans Nzoia and coastal areas including Mombasa will see intermittent rain. In addition to temperature fluctuations and rainfall, strong winds are expected in certain regions. Southerly to south-easterly winds, with speeds exceeding 25 knots (12.9 m/s), will affect the Coast, South-eastern lowlands, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya.
"Strong southerly to south-easterly winds with speeds exceeding 25 knots (12.9 m/s) are expected over some parts of the Coast, the South-eastern lowlands, North-eastern and North-western Kenya," says Kenya Met.
