Couples in Kenya seeking civil marriages at the Attorney General's office can now anticipate an upgraded experience, thanks to a new initiative announced by the Office of the Attorney General and the Department of Justice.
This enhancement aims to provide varied wedding services that cater to diverse preferences. Attorney General Dorcas Oduor reveals that couples now have the option to hold garden weddings at prescribed fees. This initiative allows couples to choose a serene outdoor setting for their wedding while ensuring compliance with all legal requirements for marriage registration.
"Couples can select and procure a beautiful, serene outdoor setting for their special day, ensuring a memorable experience while securing compliance with all legal requirements for marriage registration," Oduor says.
In addition to garden weddings, the Attorney General's office has introduced a VIP Marriage Room located in Nairobi. Designed for couples seeking an upscale and expedited service, this room facilitates more elegant and personal ceremonies. Oduor notes that the premium features come at an increased fee, which reflects the enhanced services available, such as a private, well-appointed room that couples may customize according to their preferences.
"This service shall be offered at an up-scaled fee to reflect the premium features including a private, well-appointed room designed for personalised ceremonies and the option for couples to decorate the room according to their preferences," the notice reads.
The enhancements are designed to meet the evolving needs of modern couples, blending legal formalities with a more glamorous celebration.
Civil marriages in Kenya are typically officiated by Registrars of Marriages, Deputy County Commissioners, or Assistant County Commissioners. Couples must indicate whether their marriage will be conducted under notice or a special license before the ceremony.
This initiative is part of broader efforts to streamline government services, including the recent expansion of the Attorney General's office presence with new locations in 15 additional counties.
