David Kimele Leting, a Member of the County Assembly for Kipkenyo Ward, recently celebrated a significant personal achievement with a ceremony held on January 11.
Leting, who was among over 962,000 candidates participating in the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams, attained a mean grade of D- (Minus). Leting, a private candidate who did not attend formal schooling, undertook the KCSE examination with the primary goal of obtaining a certification.
His results exceeded his expectations, as he had initially anticipated scoring an E. Specifically, he reported four Es in Mathematics, Geography, Chemistry, and English, and two D- grades in Kiswahili and Christian Religious Education, with his strongest performance recorded in Biology, where he achieved a C-.
Leting's educational journey is notable. He dropped out of nursery school in 1970 and lacked formal education until he registered for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in 2020, where he scored 150 out of 500 marks. This accomplishment motivated his pursuit of secondary education, ultimately culminating in his recent KCSE results.
Expressing pride in his achievements, Leting highlights the job security that his academic qualifications afford him. He recalls a time when holding a KCSE certificate was mandatory for all MCAs, emphasizing that his new qualification addresses any potential criticisms and fulfils the prerequisites for his position.
Good for him. At this age he’s more educated than Oscar SUDI.
