Kuria Signals Potential ODM Running Mate for Nairobi 2027 Bid

Former presidential adviser Moses Kuria has signalled a possible cross-party alliance for the 2027 Nairobi governor race by presenting Makadara MP George Aladwa as a potential running mate.

Kuria revealed the proposed pairing in a social media post featuring a graphic labelled “Kuria Aladwa, the Nairobi Dream Team” and “Make Nairobi Work Again (Manawa)”. The design positioned Kuria as a gubernatorial candidate and Aladwa as his deputy, indicating an effort to build a ticket that cuts across party lines.

Kuria, who leads the Chama cha Kazi party, framed the idea as a step away from tribal and partisan politics. He said the partnership was rooted in shared values and a joint commitment to addressing Nairobi’s long-standing challenges. He argued that their combined experience and networks would support a focused reform agenda.

The message followed Kuria’s recent confirmation that he will run for Nairobi governor. His announcement came after President William Ruto publicly criticised the state of governance at City Hall, citing failures in service delivery and financial management. Kuria echoed those concerns, warning that Nairobi risks losing its position as a regional economic centre without urgent reforms.

He also referred to the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s repeated appeals for improved leadership in the capital. Several figures have already expressed interest in the governorship. MPs Babu Owino and James Gakuya have declared their intentions, while businesswoman Agnes Kagure and former Principal Secretary Irungu Nyakera are also expected to run.

More contenders are likely to emerge as the election approaches.
