IEBC Allows NASA to Have their Own Election Results Tally, But for "Internal Use Only"

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Thursday allowed the opposition coalition NASA to operate a parallel tallying system during the August 8th general election, but for internal use only and they [NASA] cannot announce and declare their own result tally.

After a meeting with the NASA principals at his office on Thursday, IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati said that “parties recognize it is the mandate of the IEBC to announce and declare the results of an election. However, political parties and media may monitor, tally and verify the results for the own internal use,” said Wafula.

IEBC had earlier ruled against NASA operating its own election tally, terming that illegal.

NASA insists on having its own tally system because it says the elections might be rigged in favor of Jubilee. Deputy President William Ruto dismissed NASA’s claims, saying NASA has no winning formula and is trying to “have a shortcut to win by planning to establish a parallel tallying center to announce results for themselves as winners.”

The BIG question and a HUGE elephant in the room is, what will the IEBC and/or the government do if NASA decides to declare their own results which conflict with the official IEBC results especially in ODM stronghold areas to incite the masses? National intelligence Service and other security agents must be fully prepared for the worst case scenario NOT sit idle like they did under President Kibaki during the 2007 general elections which culminated in the worst atrocities witnessed in Kenya's independence history.

How legal is this move?.
