IEBC Commissioner Roselyn Akombe Wants Investigations Conducted on Fake WhatsApp Chats

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Commissioner Dr Roselyne Akombe has written to the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) seeking investigations into the alleged WhatsApp chats circulated on social media.

Chats circulated online weeks ago had shown Akombe in a series of communication with politicians including Siaya senator James Orengo, where she allegedly linked confidential plans within IEBC.

While she dismissed them as fake and intended to taint her reputation as a public officer, Akombe now wants probe conducted to unearth the source of the falsehoods.

"I have never met the NASA leadership till we started having the tripartite talks with both Nasa and Jubilee. But before then I had met Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju. It is a meeting I can publicly confirm because as far I am concerned, it was in the interest of the electoral process," Akombe said on Tuesday.

She said the rumors would not stop her from focusing on her mandate at the IEBC.

On the Bomas meeting held on Tuesday between IEBC, NASA and Jubilee, she said significant strides had been achieved, but the commission was looking for a wau to address Nasa's "irreducible minimums."

"The issues they raised are very serious but we don't believe they are too difficult to solve, we have a team working on them. As a commission, we have taken the Supreme Court's ruling, gone through it and made a plan to work on it. We have been given a second chance, we will continue reaching out to the voters and various stakeholders," Akombe added.
