Nyeri to Build Sh200 Million Mansion for Governor Mutahi Kahiga
Nyeri County plans to build Governor Mutahi Kahiga a palatial residence at a cost of Sh200 million.
An annual development programme for the 2018-2019 fiscal year shows that the money will be used to acquire land where the mansion will sit, cater for architectural design and its construction. It will be built between 2018 and 2022.
The proposed 200 million is more than double the amount suggested by the previous administration, which had set aside Sh35 million for the residence.
Governor Kahiga has denied having any knowledge on how much the county has set aside for construction of the home, pointing out that budgeting had not been finalised. Kahiga further notes that budget for construction of houses of governor, his deputy and the assembly Speaker will be in line with a guideline by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
“The commission notified County Governments that governors, their deputies and speakers will not receive house allowances starting July 2019,” he said.
Robert Thuo, the Nyeri County Finance and Economic Planning Executive said it is inappropriate to assume that the county would spend Sh200 million to build the home, while the ADP is a planning document.
“You do not quote a planning document. There is no budget for that residence and money has not been set aside,” he said.
