I Give My Money to God Not Witchdoctors Like You Do, DP William Ruto Tells Critics of His Church Contributions

Deputy President William Ruto has defended his frequent "harambees" where he donates millions of shillings to churches across the country.

Speaking at AIPCA Church Patanisho in Kayole, Nairobi on Sunday, the Deputy President told off critics of his huge contributions in churches, noting that he spends his money on God, unlike his rivals who give cash to witchdoctors.

“Some people have been criticising my frequent church attendance. But if you investigate these people very well, they use their money at night. They take their money to witchdoctors at night, but we take our money to church during the day for the work of God,” Ruto said.

Opposition leaders led by Raila Odinga have been raising questions on the source of Ruto's cash, which he dishes everywhere he tours.

“How can somebody who is responsible for a country that is failing be doing so well in his private business? How comes that this business acumen cannot be translated into the country so that we all prosper? And when you ask, you are told he is a businessman,” Orange Democratic Movement Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna asked in the past.

Ruto, who contributed Sh1.5 million to the newly built church and an additional Sh1 million from President Kenyatta, said he will continue contributing towards God's work.

“They say I have been purchasing seats for churches. And because we do not ask them why they take their money to witchdoctors at night, they should leave us alone to give our money to church for the work of God," he said. “They should do their job and let us do ours.”

Ruto was also recently quoted saying that he invests in heaven while his rivals invest in funerals.

R.I.P Church. Church has become compliance of corruption. Gutire muici na mucuthiriria (there is no thief and bystander)

There is nothing free in this world. You are not giving to God, you are giving to your buddies in church who will turn around and ask their followers to vote for you. Church today is a vehicle for corruption. Why not use the same money to build a factory, hospital or pay off the Chinese to help uphold the dignity of your citizenry. Or is this an Arsonist/Fireman syndrome? You take from them and then come and return a portion. Let's not do it using God's name.

Like churches is what we desperately need, last time I checked, huh!! Clealy Ruto is buying votes, by investing in the most gullible and manipulable sector of our society, hoping to reap big in votes come 2022. I agree with you A-UI, why can't he invest in manufacturing, agribusiness, or other more productive sectors. Churches don't add to the GDP (unless we tax the hell out of them).
