On the 41st Anniversary, Uhuru Announces End of Mzee Jomo Kenyatta’s Public Commemoration

President Uhuru has announced the end of public commemoration of the death of Kenya’s founding president, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.

Speaking during the 41st memorial service at All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi on Thursday, Uhuru said this would be the last public memorial of the late Mzee Kenyatta.

“As president, I have consulted the family of the late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and we have agreed that this is going to be the last celebration of Mzee in this manner, we shall each celebrate him as we remember him,” said Kenyatta, adding that the family will onwards hold private commemorations.

He thanked former President Daniel Arap Moi for observing this day for 21 years and 3rd President Mwai Kibaki for 10 years.

“On behalf of the family of the late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta I want to thank the 2nd president of the republic honorable Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi who without fail for 21 years observed this day, we are truly grateful to him for that,” he stated.

Kenyatta remembered his father as a man who gave his life to the service of the nation. “We are not just here to remember the man; we are also here to remember what he stood for and what he gave his life for. Leadership is not about where you are from but a desire to serve and make a difference,” he said.

“I remember this very early morning 41 years ago still very vividly and to some of us it looked as if it was the end of the world because we could not imagine life without him.”

My Goodness...Why would he do that? He surely is destroying a legacy. And so likewise he will
not have one. What you do to others already done to yourself. Is the Son jealousy of His Dad's Popularity, which he lacks. Am just asking.

So why do think he is destroying a legacy if he did not say why? What legacy of celebrating are talking about anyway? We should just have a presidents day.

Jomo Kenyatta did a heroic job fighting for Kenya’s independence but he messed up his good deeds by later laying a foundation of plunder of the country’s resources. He and his family stole too much and Moi got the lesson & continued the theft. Kenya was ways ahead of many countries in South East Asia including South Korea but this theft / corruption, incompetence and general imprudence on the part of Kenyatta made sure we shall forever lag behind. It’s also not lost to many that billions earmarked for the mobile clinics recently disappeared and a one Nyokabi Kenyatta is allegedly said to be part of the thieves that stole this money. We should have forgotten Kenyatta eons ago and moved on. Low IQ “leaders” should never be allowed anywhere near leadership

This was long overdue and in any case his dad did NOT fight along with Maumau, something he (Jomo)even denied before court right before he was jailed. Even if he did(supposedly) he was NOT the only one. We should celebrate all who lost their lives not one. His image should not be on any coin leave alone a note in Kenya with all the thieving he did rendering others homeless. He was the founder of corruption and an opportunist dictator. Thank you Uhuru for coming to this realization. All you can do now is remove the body from whereever take it to Gatundu for proper burial and let poor Wanjiku pick up the pieces. Let us Punguza Mizigo next.

Totally agree with most you here. There is nothing to celebrate when it comes to Jomo he led th country to the current corruption crisis and his son led th country to its economic deathbed. How can one family own vast lands almost 1/3 of the country. Land Thieves at the highest level. lakini Ni sawa tuu Kila Mbwa na siku yake..
