Matiang’i Blasts Kenyan Judiciary after Akasha Brothers are Convicted in the US

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has taken a swipe at the Kenyan Judiciary for failing to convict known drug traffickers.

Speaking on Monday, CS Matiang’i said Kenyan courts should be ashamed that Akasha brothers were convicted with drug trafficking after being extradited to the US.

“They never slept in a police cell. They were released 10 times via bonds by Judiciary. Until the Akashas were jailed in the US, they might be roaming here and continuing to kill our youths,” said Matiang’i.

Matiang’i spoke during the launch of 2019-2022 National Agency for the Campaign Against Drug Abuse (Nacada) framework on Monday.

Baktash Akasha was sentenced to 25 years in jail by a US judge last month after he pleaded guilty to drug trafficking and bribery charges alongside his younger brother, Ibrahim Akasha. Ibrahim will be sentenced by the same judge in November.

The two brothers were arrested in Mombasa in 2015 alongside Gulam Hussein and Vijaygiri Goswami in a US-led sting operation. The suspects were extradited to the US by the US Drug Enforcement Agency in January 2017.

Before their arrest, the four were out on bail from charges filed in a Kenyan court by the counter-terrorism and anti-narcotics units.

Kenyan judiciary is a joke. MPS need to spend more time debating the role of this organ of government than asking for pay rise and slay queens and kings.

Judiciary under the watch of CHRISTIAN Maraga is rotten. i had so much hope he would enforce law but curruption in judiciary leaves so many victims naked. Especially when one of them is accused Mwilu , the latest mombasa judge dealing in drugs for example . those cases have been frozen . My fellow Kenyans Kenya is hell on earth . there is no one to protect us MPS only care about their pockets and unless they see no person gain/advantage they don't give a damn

Fred Matiang’i, you know the king pins in drug trafficking in kenya, stop playing dumb. How many politicians used and are still dealing drugs??
How many judges, DCI OFFICIALS, LAWYERS are involved in the trade?
You need to start with the big fish.
Or just overhaul the JUDICIAL system.

The drug kingpins have been known to finance political campaigns for years and years. Lets not blame just the judiciary but look at all those who have benefited from drug trade.

Justice for sale in Kenya. Ask: Kidero, Ojaamong, Waititu, Waiguru, Obado, Lillian Muthoni, Phelamena Muiru, drug Lord's; Sonko, Hasan Joho and Kabogo and defense lawyers who are used as conduits by the judges in collecting the corruption money from the accused and many more. All these goons belong in Prison in Kenya- sorry, I mean in US. Shame on David Maraga. Hey Maraga, you put your ego on the world stage by nullifying Uhuru's presidential election victory, yet you've no guts to convict and imprison a gang of drug dealers and politician- corrupt thieves who are causing an economic havoc in the country?

@Mwororo you have hit the nail on the Head . This is how Kenya functions unfortunately but we are chicken to go in the street unlike Hong kong or what Rumania did. we love ourselves to much and this turns us to chicken for what our leaders and those in corridors of power do is
TO MARAGA, PRESIDENT KENYATTA, MPS
“He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it. He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it.” This Martin Luther King saying

The whole government is corrupt. Its not only the judiciary. The police are still leading as the most corrupt entity in Kenya. I guess you can lump the police together with the judiciary. They go hand in hand.
Change will only come when the masses/ voters are tired of being short changed, and weed out the current politicians.
So many unfulfilled promises, and wananchi dont seem to remind the politicians or hold them accountable.Yes the voters can change the system of corruption if the abhor it.After all they are they ones who bear the brunt of its effects.
