Nairobi Governor Sonko Feted in the US

Embattled Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has been awarded the World Peace Messenger 2019 Award by US-based World Peace and Diplomacy Organization.

The award was bestowed to Governor Sonko in recognition of his efforts in reaching out to the less fortunate and his commitment to reforming youth associated with criminal groups.

"I am so humbled and gratified to have been recognized at such a high level but this can only make me proud of the bold steps l have made in my life," said Sonko.

"Having had a past that is challenging, many youths doing some of these evils approach me for possible solutions on how they can be better citizens and we have helped them get the right counseling and rehabilitation and some have grown into reliable businessmen in society," he added.

Kenyan social advocate Betty Adera received the award on behalf of Sonko during a ceremony held in Los Angeles, CA on Monday. Ms. Adera is the CEO and founder of Betty Adera Foundation International, an organization that focuses on the prevention of gender-based violence, girls and women in leadership, youth empowerment growth and peace and cohesion.

Last year, Sonko was named the Good Deeds Goodwill Ambassador in Kenya by Good Deeds Global. Sonko was recently barred from accessing his office after he was charged with corruption in relation to the alleged misappropriation of county funds amounting to KSh.357 million.

A simple google search and you see such an award does not exist. Probably bunch of Kenyans with 501(c)/ NGOs to help Sonko launder money, stay relevant then bestow honor on him.

No he steals from the poor and then redistributes to other poor people so that he looks good.If he was stealing from the rich he would not have been in such big shit. Most taxpayers in Nairobi can hardly afford 2 square meals a day it is their money he stole. Not that they had a choice taxes are not optional .Modern day money laundering and it comes with accolades how can I be a thief or do I say yawa !.

I googled this award. There is no evidence of any such award on WPDO's website. The organization exists but appears to be more of an Indian thing than anything else. There was an event in LA but not much info on it handing out awards just not this messenger thing. They have a remarkably weak social media presence. If they are willing to honor a thief, their awards are probably merely elegant paperweights. They may need to focus their efforts in Kashmir first.
