576,667 Green Card Applications Approved in the 2019 Fiscal Year

United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) approved a total of 576,667 green card petitions (Form I-485, Adjustment of Status) in the 2019 fiscal year, data recently released by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reveals.
The Family-based adjustment of status category comprised the largest percentage of I-485 approvals, with 338,613. A total of 104,849 applying for permanent residence based on employment were approved, while Refugee adjustments accounted for 44,600 of the approvals.
Data for other categories of I-485 approvals were as follows:
- Cuban adjustment act: 36,896
- Asylum adjustments: 26,130
- Indo Chinese adjustments: 21
- Other adjustments of status: 25,558
The 2019 fiscal year began on October 1st, 2018 and ended on September 30, 2019.
