Raila Undergoes Surgery at a German Hospital in Dubai
The family of ODM leader Raila Odinga has confirmed he flew to Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to seek specialized treatment.
His elder brother Oburu Odinga told Daily Nation that Raila underwent minor back surgery at a German hospital in Dubai and will be returning to the country soon.
“Jakom (Raila) is out of the country for a minor surgical operation on his back. It is not a serious health issue, but just a minor one. So, he’s okay,” Oburu told the publication.
“The Germans have a good hospital facility in the Arabian country where he’s being monitored,” he added.
The revelation comes days after ODM through its communications director Philip Etale dismissed reports that Raila had traveled to China for cancer medication.
Instead, Etale said Odinga was in DR Congo in his capacity as African Union High Representative for Infrastructure Development.
“He is not in China. The last time he was there I think was in December last year before the Coronavirus pandemic. Right now, if you want to get there, you must be ready for a 14-day quarantine,” said Oburu.
Blogger Dennis Itumbi was the first to report that Odinga had traveled abroad on a chartered plane to seek treatment in the company of his daughter Winnie Odinga and a few aides.
