Uhuru Gives Kenya Airways Green Light to Resume Flights

President Uhuru says Kenya Airways (KQ) will resume operations in a few days. Uhuru, who spoke on Friday during a virtual conference sponsored by US-based Corporate Council on Africa (CCA), noted that the government will first allow the national airline to resume domestic flights.

The government will later set a date for KQ to resume international flights based on the global Covid-19 situation, Uhuru added.

“We're doing everything we can to make sure we are back in the skies... we're eager to open up, but we have to make sure we all stay safe,” he told the summit.

KQ has been grounded for the past three months following the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has entirely disrupted the global aviation industry.

Kenya Airways CEO Allan Kilavuka this week disclosed the airline has lost an estimated Sh10 billion due to the Covid-19 crisis. Kilavuka said the losses could soar to Sh50 billion by the end of this year.

The carrier did not suspend cargo operations but this has not been enough to sustain the business.

Scientifically, an Aeroplane can be scanned with with Ultra Violet Rays, to kill all germs. But we still don't know exactly what Covid-19 is, or its cure. We have to accept it, and move forward... ie, how to deal with it.

At the height of the pandemic? Uhuru needs to help the country manage to control COVID-19 before reopening flights and open up Kenya for additional COVID-19 infections from outside. I hope outsiders will also avoid Kenya for now with the rising numbers. Let's not be like Texas, Florida, and Arizona. They are now paying a high price. NY has announced they will quarantine people coming from these states.

Kweli ikon things hii Kenya yeti. Someone is here claiming people people want to travel and yet the reason we even have Covid-19 is because we continued to allow foreigners and as airline international travel in and out of Kenya.
What measures have even been put in place at our international airports to make sure those flying in and out and airlines do not bring in more infection?

Covid-19 is here to stay with us. Kenya is not an exception. People need their jobs back. Kenya airways need to pay for the leased aircrafts and other overheads

The EU has barred flights originating in Kenya. This means no flights will come to Kenya from the EU. So we need not worry about the virus coming from the EU for now.
