US Ambassador Kyle McCarter Engages in Twitter Tiff with Miguna Miguna

US Ambassador to Kenya Kyle McCarter was over the weekend embroiled in a Twitter tiff with firebrand Kenyan-Canadian lawyer Miguna Miguna.
The altercation started after Amb. McCarter tweeted a short video of the world-famous wildebeest migration, urging American tourists to visit Kenya following the lifting of the ban on international flights.
“Restriction of movement over. #USAMarafiki Karibuni #magicalkenya #safekenya,” McCarter captioned the video.
But reacting to the tweet, Miguna told McCarter off, accusing him of maintaining the “primitive believe that Africa is just about wild animals.”
“Like a typical Yankee and neocolonial chief, you maintain the primitive belief that Africa is just about WILD ANIMALS that you celebrate but you don’t care about the LIVES OF AFRICAN PEOPLES,” wrote Miguna.
McCarter gave a sarcastic reply to Miguna’s tweet, reminding him that he is also “welcome” to visit his homeland.
"It is about bringing back tourists w/money to create jobs for people who desperately need them. Even you are welcome to visit #magicalkenya Oh! I forgot. Never mind," wrote McCarter.

No need to argue with Miguna. He is a lunatic. However, I somewhat agree with Miguna. Kenya's beauty is not the animals; it is the people.

Oh well, leave your me me me. Tourist come all the way to see one of the only culture in Kenya which was left undisturbed by the westernized mental slavely namely the Maasai. How many foreigners have you seen camping in your neighborhood? province?

People aren't zoo animals. Have you gone to any continent to stare at people? And why only people on less wealthy continents? IMHO there is something patronizing and condescending about that whole let me go see how these people live and buy some trinkets from them thing. Why do you find this a rewarding experience and why do it for white people and other racist groups?

But Mundumugo, you fly over 9000 miles to go see family and friends. Americans, after coronavirus is gone can also fly to Kenya to see us. Not animals but people.

Why are we so dilutional? The world comes to Kenya for the animals. Period. Wacheni matusi and listen to what you are saying for a minute. Bwana balozi did not disparage Kenya. He did for free what we're paying millions to advertising companies with no tangible results. Miguna, look for publicity elsewhere.
By the way, you burned your bridges a long time ago. Move on!

Its time for Kenyans and Africans to wake up . A foreigner in the year 2020 after 400 years of slavery is telling Africans what we need from the master. That our survival depends on what foreigners will pay to come and see the animals. That we are non existent and helpless without the animals? What does this say about the black man in Kenya and Africa.
Please don't come to see the animals. In the year 2020,if seeing the animals is what is going to feed our nation, all Kenyans should really be ashamed of working in that industry. Yes, we should work but at the same time look for a way out of this mentality as individuals, country and continent.
My opinion, we have closed the country for 4 months, our people did not die. Let us keep doing what we did for those 4 months and close the animal parks for atleast 10 years. We have not tried this before, maybe its time to try it.

The most intellectual people are largely misunderstood. MM vision is way beyond what we are prepared to face and unfortunately for him, he has been collateral damage for some, a bit like Like Patrick Lumumba, MM can see beyond the smokescreen. Yes, Africa is more than the wild animals but we also need tourist revenue to survive, so both have a point.

I agree with you.. the man is intelligent.. but he is also deficient of common sense... His BIG mouth has been his undoing and he lost the respect due his brains. One can express his vision with belittling and condescending your peers... If MM was wise/humble , he would have left am mark as a great pan Africanist of his generation, but does the man ever listen?

Miguna×2 has a habit of picking stupid fights. I would rather people from the west came to Kenya to enjoy the wildlife rather than do what I think of as voyeurism in the cloak of tourism. The people of North Sentinal island have it right. Still though that was a vicious burn.

Americans are banned from travelling many countries including Jamaica due to surging C-19 cases so this ambassador should stop encouraging them ignorant Americans to bring C-19 to Kenya. Americans are refusing to wear mask which is mandated in KE so maybe they shouldn't visit unless masked up.

Kenya should guarantee American tourists. The US is now an epicenter of COVID-19. European countries are not open to Americans. We have enough problems without COVID-19. The rising numbers of infections should challenge the Kenyan government to do the right thing for its citizen. Kenya must expand its resource generating industries. Relying on one industry is not sustainable.
