IEBC Confirms Date for 2022 General Elections

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has confirmed the exact date for the next general election.

IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati on Friday announced the elections will be held on August 9th, 2022.

“The next general elections will be held on 9th August 2022 in line with the recently released Elections Operational Plan,” Chebukati announced.

Chebukati indicated that candidates and political parties intending to participate in the next year’s elections are free to commence financing of their campaigns.

Parties and candidates are required to furnish the electoral commission with authorized persons appointed to manage their campaign funds.

“All authorized persons shall be required at registration to open campaign financing ban accounts where contributions by a candidate, political party or contributions received from a lawful source and submit the details of the account to the commission,” Chebukati added.

IEBC’s announcement comes amid widespread allegations that there are plans to delay the 2022 elections over the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic and the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) referendum push.

But IEBC and a section of political leaders have insisted that the election must go on as provided in the 2010 constitution.

The ibec said that they are not ready to Conduct the 2022 general elections a few months ago.

Can Chebukati explain to the Kenyan people the ability of the ibec to do so without freak errors?

Ndugu Wafula Chebukati:

Well no delays no compromises that should pressure those pushing for BBI to give up right now.Stop wasting tax payers money with silly appeals trying to get into government through the back door while others do not want to retire start packing now if you cannot run on the current constitution go home.

Now that the date has been set, politicians will undoubtedly double up on their campaign promises.Or should I say lies?
Folks, lets hold them to account. We should do an assessment to see how many campaign promises were fulfilled and how many were never even attempted,or failed miserably. If the ledger shows that most of the campaign promises were fulfilled, your candidate has to fully explain to your satisfaction why he/she failed on some of the promised, before you give them your vote. And if there is a new candidate in the mix, they have to convince you as to why they are abetter representative. Eat their bribe with your mouth and vote with your conscience/heart.Its that simple.

Elections should be delayed brill covid19 issues are addressed. The country can afford to embark on general elections while the COVID problem is every where. Those wanting to have the elections held are quite selfish and do not have the interests of the ordinary people at heart!!
