Joy as Kenyan Woman Returns from the US, Reunites with Son After 23 Years of Separation

A Kenyan woman based in the US could not hide her joy after seeing her son for the first time in many years.

Beatrice Wanjiku landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Saturday aboard a Kenya Airways flight.

Here, she reunited with her son Alfred Macharia after being apart for 23 years, according to a Twitter post by Kenya Airways.

“Alfred Macharia had not seen his mum, Beatrice Wanjiku face to face for 23 years until today (Saturday) when she arrived in Nairobi from the US,” KQ wrote on Twitter.

Through Twitter, Macharia had earlier requested Kenya Airways for a special Captain's message to his mum.

Captain Simon Musau and First Officer Anthony Adeya, who were in charge of the KQ flight carrying Macharia’s mum to Kenya, delivered the message to her in person.

“Happy reunion Macharia and Beatrice, enjoy and welcome home, mum!” Kenya Airways added.

Too many pieces of this puzzle are missing. 23 years but why? Didn’t she have makaratasi, sick, or just never cared?

Happy reunion!!!! Video call once in a while would’ve been nice. I’ll go on a limb and say she was not legal and could not travel back sooner and or was not able to petition for her son. I know someone who came to the States in the 1960s and have never gone back.

The west is pretty good if you are super rich and no arthritis. If kids are in Kenya then every parent must return at some point. Even westerners including blacks are running to Africa and other places to avoid weather, bills, loneliness, bad selfish families, taxes, too many laws and rules, lgbt epidemic, anti free exercise of religion, insecurity, no love, bad gmo food, too fast life, no rest, etc

Listen to this new way of expression! Kenyans will always be amazing. Being one of the world's "thieviest", mischieviests, greediest, "corruptiest" and NOW "jeolousiest" people the world has ever produced since Alexander The Great, Magellan, Lord Delamere, Socrates and Christopher Columbus.
Kenyans in Kenya or Kenyans in the USA, or Kenyans everywhere, are known for everything that is evil. What is the return of this woman back to her homeland gotta do with makaratasi or the "whys" most of you are vomiting. If there is anything that scares any Kenyan out there, is the mention or idea of relocating back home. Her bravery to end the misery and the cycle of being seen to be living in paradise, should be applauded. Its not easy to decide that enough is enough, pack your bags and head home. Most of you fear going back to Kenya to experience the poverty and the un-ending life carnage that you had left behind ten twenty years ago. Truth be told. Most if not all, live hand to mouth; check to check, or worst case scenario, line up for welfare to keep themselves alive. Most live in houses that will never belong to them, legally. I look at some Kenyans in church and other get-to-togethers, and as Kikuyus would say "Ngai vava". Most drive expensive cars they think they own, until that check stop flowing. Most struggle to mountain of bills that has weighed down the US Postal service for decades. Most arrived in the US as a fully fledged family, now disintegrated due to various reasons. Me going back home?? Niende nikachekwe? Hell noop! oooh I would rather stay here for prestigious reason, other than go back home to nothing. Why despise your homeland but during sunset, unachangiwa usafirishwe nyumbani. Kenya as a country is not bad. It emits enough resources to cater for us all. Its the leaders you elect foolishly that make our country look the way you see it. I have lived in America for 21 one years and have seen it all, lived it all. Men sending their wives to college to do nursing on an $8-$10/hour, the after the wife graduates and start to earn $25-60/hr, kule college kesha pata hubby, anakupotea vivi hivyo. Wives earning more than their men anamea pembe. Unadhubutu kuwelekelea mkono. Mtoto wako anakwambia utampeleka wapi? Hasira za Kikenya hizooooo piap. Unacharaza yeye. Matukio? To even have the courage to mention of going back home to your roots is God send. Leave this lady alone. Naturally, there are so many things that will never add especially if you came here as an adult. That is a fact. Whether you want to settle in America or otherwise, just make sure you have some nest eggs back home. Work out some ways of avoiding being conned by family, relatives, lawyers, friends and others. This America is not for all of us. Chunga usirudi nyumbani kama umelalishwa kifundi fundi kwa geneza la mkebe, au ukiwa kama mzigo. Rudi nyumbani kwa hiari kama umeketi kitako kwenya ndege kama mama huyu. Corona epidemic has made things even worse. But don't call me MjuAji, I know nothing. Just listen to me and forget it. Am trying to say it in a kindlier way than "Mkenya Halisi". I know he is writing something as I speak. For Beatrice Wanjiku, conglats, niko nyuma hivi karibuni. Maisha ya utumwa hii; maisha ya bwerere hii; maisha ya kukamuliwa hii. Miasha ya ufukara hii. Maisha ya kulipa nyumba miaka 30 hii; AAAh si mie tena.

Wah this guy has really nailed it. Hata mimi got tired of the fake life and left not too long ago but I'm yet to meet mkenya halisi. Life here is not bad if u can only figure out how to make enough money. Better to live pay check to pay check back home than in another mans land take it from me. My guess is the lady was in Seattle just like the rest of them sasa hata bwana si alioa mwingine?

She made the right decision at the right time. Good to go on feet than lying flat and costing someone else 12k USD. West isn't for the old lonely sickly frail. I visited an old friend in hospital and realised I saw him more days than his kids. Luckily his wife was there everyday.

Long separation, though I do not know the circumstances, she must have kept in touch with her son and supported him through his education. Hope she has come back permanently with a pension to spend rest of her days in Kenya.
Wish them luck
