We Will Make Nairobi Work, Sakaja Pledges as He is Sworn in as Nairobi Governor

Johnson Sakaja and Njoroge Muchiri have been sworn in as Nairobi Governor and Deputy Governor respectively.

The two took an oath of office during a ceremony held at Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on Thursday and attended by president-elect William Ruto and outgoing Nairobi governor Anne Kananu.

In his speech, Sakaja stated that the time for politics is over and that the real work of transforming the city begins.

“It has been a long journey but together we can make Nairobi work together, time for politics is over, we will work with everyone to take the county forward,” Sakaja said.

Sakaja, who was elected on a UDA party ticket, pledged to deliver a first-class county without a second class citizen.

“Days for coming home to demolished houses in Nairobi are over, days for hawkers being chased and harassed as they try to make a living are over,” he added.

He further reiterated his commitment to ensuring a fair business environment. “We want Nairobi to be always open for business 24/7, where the playing ground is fair,” he said.

On his part, Ruto challenged Sakaja and his team to deliver, describing his election as a miracle having encountered several obstacles while seeking clearance to vie for the seat.

“You know my brother Johnson that you are a miracle candidate, that your election to the city is indeed a miracle. I want to tell you that we have confidence in you and we will work together,” said Ruto.

Sakaja was among 45 Governors-elect who took the oath of office on Thursday following their election on August 9th.

Good luck getting through the first year Sakaja. You should be working on that degree day and night and not yapping giving false promises.

Hawkers are chased because the city needs its cut from their proceeds and houses are demolished because of corruption land grabbers in a hurry to develop ill gotten or questionable plots.Utaweza kweli one man against a corrupt system as old if not older than independence.Ongea na Sonko,Kidero and even Anne Kananu before promising miracles.
