On Sunday, President William Ruto drove himself in an electric car to the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) where the Africa Climate Summit will be held from September 4 to 6.
A video posted online shows the President driving a yellow car from State House to KICC accompanied by an all-electric motorcade consisting of two motorbike outriders, two cars, and two electric bicycles. The President visited the KICC to attend the Africa Youth Climate Assembly, a precursor to the African Climate Summit. The African Climate Summit will take place alongside the Africa Climate Week with over 30,000 delegates expected to attend, including over 25 heads of state.
During the commencement of the African Youth Climate Assembly, Ruto encouraged the youth to join hands and participate in the event with enthusiasm. He was pleased to watch intelligent and youthful individuals representing their respective countries while showcasing various climate change solutions. Ruto emphasized the importance of young Africans executing action in the green transition. The upcoming Africa Climate Summit presents an opportunity for leaders to support climate resilience, adaptation, and mitigation.
The Nairobi Declaration, to be adopted on the final day, is eagerly anticipated by stakeholders who hope to see action-oriented goals and solutions. Special Climate Envoy Ali Mohamed believes the declaration will represent all stakeholders and aspirations of the continent. Olumide Abimbola, founder and director of the Africa Policy Research Institute, says that Africa possesses the minerals deemed essential for the green revolution. He urges African governments to find ways to add value to their minerals within the content instead of merely exporting them.

Tell us something that someone with half abrain cannot figure out.
Who cares!
The electric grid is not ready for the increase in demand from electric cars. The power service is already under strain and can't even deliver affordable electricity at the current demand rate. Now add Ev's charging ports and you'll realize that EVs are not practical.I will feel sorry for all those owners who live in high rise apartments and residential homes with no garage or driveways to charge their vehicles. But of course the greedy politicians introducing this technology have brain bypasses & snouts in the trough. They never get anything right except the decline of country. This is what happens when short term thinking scoundrels, make stupid commitments without having a clue what they are doing.
There will be a Kenyan or even a foreigner who will grab the opportunity to set up EV charging stations as is happening in other countries where electric vehicles are becoming normal. The lack of electricity will not stop the wave of EV’s .Chevy is now making electric vehicles available to the masses .Especially in the developing countries where they are used to make a killing on gas prices somebody somewhere is about to become extremely wealthy .EV’s are here to stay .

Mr. President, let Kenya and Africans remember they have done almost zero to cause climate change. Industrialized nations have contributed to pollution and caused most climate change.
Kenya and Africa are about to take of in industrialization. Let Kenya and Africa not sign anything that will halt or hold back our nations from getting Industrialized.
Let Kenya and Africa be mindful of what we become signatories to. It is easy to be trapped, and difficult to get out.
See how hard it is to get the colonizers out of the Sahel region.
@Anonymous. You make a valid argument but you're forgetting one thing; it is fairly easy to have a beggar do what you want because any resistance will be met with reduced donations or none all together.
That car will work well if you live in the “city” not slums and the muddy countryside!!!
