Officers Who Handled Pastor Nganga Accident Face Probe

The fatal accident involving a well-known TV evangelist took a new twist Thursday after Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet questioned the integrity of officers who handled the case.

He ordered that they be investigated, then dismissed and prosecuted if it is established they wrote a false report to exonerate Neno Evangelism preacher James Maina Ng’ang’a.

Ms Mercy Njeri died in the Sunday accident after the vehicle she was travelling collided with another at Manguo in Limuru.

INFORMATION NOT CORRECT

“In response to the mass of information provided by members of the public to the media that suggested the information given by the traffic police officers at Tigoni may not be entirely correct, I dispatched a team to the scene to verify the same,” said Mr Boinnet in a statement.

Officers from the station were the first to attend the scene of accident.

The police boss said: “In the event it is established that the officers conspired to defeat justice or compound a felony, drastic disciplinary action will be taken that could include dismissal from the National Police Service.”

The disputed police report shows that pastor was not driving a Range Rover before colliding with the oncoming vehicle.

The preliminary police report also denied that it was also moving on the wrong side of the road.

PASTOR MAY FACE CHARGES

But emerging reports have suggested otherwise and Pastor Ng’ang’a may find himself in the dock.

On Monday, police presented Mr Simon Kuria in court, identified him as the driver of the Range Rover and charged him.

He did not take pleas and was released on a Sh100,000 bond.

Ms Njeri’s husband Martin Mbugua, who was driving the oncoming vehicle, survived with serious injuries.

“I wish to express my heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the late Mercy Njeri. I wish Mr Mbugua a quick recovery,” said Mr Boinnet.

The preliminary report left the police boss apparently embarrassed when he posted on his official Twitter account, exonerating the pastor.

The tweets said the accident involved Range Rover KCD 060V & Nissan KBZ 709W.

He added: “The KBZ 709W was driven by Martin Mbugwa Ndungu and the Range Rover was driven by Simon Maina Kuria. The wife of Nissan driver, who was a passenger, unfortunately succumbed to injuries and passed on. The Range Rover was inspected, and released. The driver will appear in the Limuru Senior Magistrates Court. He’s on 20K cash bail. The Range Rover was on General Dealers (KG) licence with valid insurance and was on test drive when the accident occurred.”

Then the National Police Service official account added: “The owner of the Range Rover is Francis Ng’ang’a Mundia and Not Pastor Ng’ang’a.”

According to Kenya Revenue Authority the Range Rover it belongs to Mr Alexander Kamweru Njenga.

Mr Mundia owns a car bazaar along Valley road and Prestige World Motors Ltd along Ngong road.

Preliminary investigations showed that Pastor Nganga was travelling from Naivasha to Nairobi in the vehicle, followed by another Toyota Prado.

CAR DEALER

Pastor Nganga maintained that the vehicle belonged to another Mr Nganga, a car dealer based along Valley.

He however did not say how he knew about the accident and the car owner’s details.

Mr Boinnet added: “I wish to inform the public that the objective of the IG’s social media account is to freely interact for purposes of sharing information, informing and advising on issues pertaining to safety and security of Kenyans.”

@bmore:
"May the truth prevail." Ndugu bmore if leaders of Kenya wanted to open a new leaf in our past, dark and distorted history, Uhuru and Ruto would by now have an INDEPENDENT COUNSEL and another special prosecutor to look into the people invol

(1) How would an independent counsel even be constituted? Nobody in their right mind is going to form an independent counsel to investigate himself so that if found guilty, he can send himself to jail and lock himself up. The folks that need to be investigated are somehow the top 5 “leaders” in the country (both in govt and in the opposition). Their main interest is their own survival and to look out for each other so there’s no way they are sending themselves or their counterparts to jail.

(2) Have you ever heard of any independent institution in this country??? Even if the so called “independent counsel” was formed, it would simply be a waste of taxpayer’s money. After years of incompetent investigations, a few matatu touts would be rounded up and locked up.

(3) As insensitive as this might sound, I don’t think there’s any appetite or goodwill to investigate what you term as “Kenyan Holocaust”. Over 3000 people die each year from road accidents and nobody seems to care – Unfortunately, I just don’t think anybody cares anymore about the 1000 that died in 2007. Maybe if 1 million people had died, some action would probably be taken.

(4) Incase you’ve missed the news lately, campaigns for 2017 have started and soon the country will be at a standstill till 2018. There’s only one leader working in Kenya somewhere in Machakos. Everyone else is busy mobilizing “his/her” community to vote as a block in 2017. Kidero just up-rooted his grass and dumped the street families back to dusty pavements.

(5) Pole boss – but you are beating a dead horse. This independent counsel idea ain’t going nowhere – drop it before it stresses you to a hospital bed. Have a good day

Boinett, if the purpose of the IG's social media account is to inform, you should not have rushed to mis-inform Kenyans. If you cannot get your facts right with all your resources and power, who can? Should Uhuru do your job too? Apparently, he is not doing his either, seeing that you still have a job!
