IEBC Warns Public Over Fake Online Job Adverts

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has warned the public about fraudulent job advertisements circulating online that falsely claim to offer employment with the commission.

Speaking at a press briefing in Nairobi on 27 January 2025, IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon, accompanied by commissioners, said the notices are fake and intended to deceive job seekers. The commission reported that it has identified at least four different versions of the false adverts, all designed to resemble official recruitment announcements while directing applicants to unauthorised websites.

According to the IEBC, the adverts claim to offer vacancies across the country, including positions for polling staff and assistants. Applicants are urged to click on links, complete online forms, and wait for further communication by email. The commission cautioned that these methods are commonly used in online scams and pose a risk to personal data and security.

The IEBC clarified that all legitimate recruitment exercises are conducted only through its official jobs portal, jobs.iebc.or.ke. Verified information is also published on the commission’s official website and its social media accounts under the handle @IEBCKenya. Any other platforms or links purporting to represent the IEBC are unauthorised.
