Deputy President Kindiki Reassures ODM of Inclusive Governance for All Communities
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has reassured political leaders and supporters of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) that Kenya’s inclusive government will represent all communities.
Speaking on Friday, 27 February, Kindiki stressed that the broad-based administration aims to promote national cohesion, not division. He urged that the arrangement was designed to benefit everyone, reassuring that all communities would have a place in the governance structure.
His comments come as speculation grows over ODM’s interest in contesting the deputy president position in the 2027 elections, despite previous indications that the party might not pursue it. ODM leader Oburu Odinga recently clarified that while there was no personal conflict with Kindiki, the deputy president’s role remained an important goal for the party.
Kindiki also addressed the political landscape in Nyanza, historically known for opposition politics, noting that residents in the region were now focused on development priorities, such as infrastructure and electricity, rather than maintaining a stance of perpetual opposition.
In his remarks, Kindiki acknowledged the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, recognising his role in facilitating ODM’s entry into the broad-based government. He described this move as an important step towards fostering national unity and ensuring inclusive development for all communities.
