A US-based Kenyan woman is taking part in a cover girl competition for Inked magazine, one of the most popular American lifestyle magazines.

Wakenya Clewis, better known as Kenyan Hippie, is among the contestants listed for the competition that is entirely done online.

In a recent interview with Inked Magazine, the resident of Florida expressed her love for art and revealed the inspiration behind her many tattoos. She says she had the first tattoo-a butterfly-when she was 24 years old. It was motivated by her love for nature.

“I love art, I love tattoos they are part of my life and I am part of a big culture in that area,” she says.

She adds that she got the motivation to get more tattoos after she met an artist who understands her skin tone.

“Being as covered as I am doesn’t have much to do with addiction, but more with growing into myself. Having an artist who knows how to work with my skin tone has been a big plus in my decision-making process to get more art.”

The winner of the contest will get a reward of $25,000 and Wakenya says it will be a life-changing experience for her if she emerges the winner.

If she wins, she says she will use the amount to settle her college loans, invest and save for her four-year-old son’s college plan. The winner of the contest will be announced on April 9th.

Wakenya is appealing to Kenyans to make her dream come true by voting for her online. You can vote for her at this link: https://cover.inkedmag.com/2020/wakenya-clewis
