MP Moses Kuria Endorses Martha Karua for Deputy President Seat
Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has endorsed Nark-Kenya leader Martha Karua for the deputy president position ahead of next year’s elections.
Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV, Kuria described Karua as the ideal running mate in the 2022 presidential election, saying the country would be safe in her hands.
“People are asking in whose hands are we safe? In the hands of Martha Karua as the deputy president. The rest we are not safe,” said Kuria.
The MP argued that the presidency of any of the leading presidential candidates including Deputy President William Ruto, Raila Odinga, Musalia Mudavadi and Kalonzo Musyoka would pose a risk to the country, hence the need to have Karua as the deputy president.
“We need a de-risking factor,” said Kuria.
Kuria said he has been speaking to Karua about the idea and will continue to persuade her.
“It’s a discussion we will continue having, but I have told Martha and she has been told by other people that this is not about her, it’s about this country,” he said.
He added: “I could have proposed myself, but there must be something more than votes. Martha has got the experience that I don’t have. The other reason also, we need to send a message to young girls in this country that you can be what you dream, and by having a woman as the deputy president is a step.”
Karua has maintained she will go for the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat in 2022 and no presidential candidate has approached her to be his running mate.
“I refuse to be drawn into the debate of the Deputy President because there is no proposal on the table, that is pure speculation. And saying that Mt. Kenya will not have a candidate is too early, there can be a surprise candidate not just in Mt. Kenya but anywhere in Kenya. So, we can say for now we are seeing several candidates for the presidency but that does not mean that the race is closed,” she said in a recent interview.
