A delegation of Kenyan officials traveled to the United States to market Kenya as a tourist destination as well as the upcoming nonstop flights between Nairobi and New York.
The team, led by Kenya Airways Chief Executive Sebastian Mikosz, met various transport and tourism stakeholders in the US, including the New York Tourism Board and the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey during the three-day tour.
The main aim of the tour was to seek partnerships with top American travel management firms and Tour Operators as well as promote the upcoming inaugural Kenya Airways direct flight to the US.
The direct flights from Nairobi to New York City will link East Africa to North America, thus opening up business opportunities and tourism exchanges between the two regions.
US has been the main source market for tourism in Kenya and the country looks to exploit the nonstop flights to boost the tourism industry. It will also open more business opportunities, considering that there are more then 40 American organizations with their regional headquarters in Nairobi.
“Kenya Airways non-stop flight from New York to Nairobi will significantly improve connection between two major markets. Not only does this key route contribute to the development of trade between East Africa and the US, it also gives the opportunity to our American guests to enjoy a wide-range of premium leisure experiences in 14 hours daily," Mikosz said.
“I also believe that expatriate Kenyans and East African in the US will be excited by this new convenient, non-stop, direct route with a leading African national carrier,” he said.
A flight will be depart Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi at 2325 hours every day and arrive at JFK airport in New York at 06:25 the following day. It will then leave New York at 12:25 landing at JKIA at 10:55 the following day.
The direct flights plan is expected to cut down travel time between the two cities by about 7 hours.
