The race for Nairobi Governor in the August 8 polls has been termed as a battle for the titans after Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko secured the Jubilee Party ticket to face ODM’s Evans Kidero.
Sonko, was on Thursday announced the winner of the ticket after trouncing 2013 presidential candidate and former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth after garnering 138,185 votes against Kenneth’s 62,502 votes in a contest that Kenneth has termed a sham.
Kenneth demanded a repeat of the exercise as he claimed that it was not free and fair and the fate now remains with the Jubilee’s appeals tribunal to decide the legitimacy of Sonko’s victory.
Following the results, Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero says that he is ready for Sonko and is not afraid to face him.
“I am not surprised. All along we knew Sonko was going to be our competitor. So we are not worried and Nairobians will prove that in August,” he said, as reported by The Star.
Kidero says he will win the hearts of Nairobi residents because of the development projects he has initiated.
“Our level of preparedness is not determined by who our competitor is. It is determined by the urban integrated development plan that we have developed,” he said.
Governor Kidero was handed a direct nomination ticket by ODM.
The duo will also face former Raila Odinga’s advisor Miguna Miguna who is contesting as an independent candidate.
