NASA Kicks Off Creation of People's Assemby

Raila Odinga-led National Super Alliance (NASA) has started the process of creating the recently announced people's assembly.

Speaking during a media briefing at the Okoa Kenya offices in Nairobi on Tuesday, NASA principal Moses Wetang'ula said a motion prepared by the coalition has been sent to County Assemblies in NASA strongholds for review and adoption.

“Therefore, the County Assemblies of the Republic of Kenya in areas where NASA has control shall be presented with a motion through which the people of Kenya shall exercise their sovereignty until when proper elections are held in Kenya,” Wetang'ula said.

Wetang'ula further insisted that Nasa would not recognize Uhuru Kenyatta as president unless a fresh presidential election is held.

“We equally do not recognize the declaration of Uhuru Kenyatta as the president-elect as a constitutional pronouncement capable of constituting him as a legitimately elected president,” he said.

While acknowledging that some counties might not adopt the motion, Wetang'ula said the National Resistance Movement (NRM) would engage Kenyans directly.

“Where we are thin or nil on numbers we will exercise our authority under article 1 of the Constitution where the people now take the sovereignty, they will organise themselves and do what is constitutional to change the country,” Wetang'ula said.
