Martha Karua Demands Sh20 Million from Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria in a Defamation Suit

Nack Kenya leader Martha Karua wants Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria be ordered to pay her Sh20 million for linking her to a scheme that procured prosecution witnesses to fix Deputy President William Ruto at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

In a defamation suit against Kuria, the former Gichugu MP is demanding the amount from Kuria as damages to her reputation. Speaking during a rally in Kapsokwony in Bungoma County on September 2015, Kuria sensationally accused Karua of being at the center of a plot to have Ruto jailed at the Hague-based court.

Kuria claimed that Karua, alongside other leaders he did not mention, met at Galileo in Westlands area, where they planned to recruit witnesses against Ruto who was then facing crimes against humanity charges connected to the 2007-2008 post-election violence.

Karua later demanded for unconditional apology from Kuria, but the MP refused, prompting Karua to sue him for defamation. Kuria further declined to respond to the case despite being given the opportunity to defend himself.

On Tuesday, High court judge Joseph Sergon, said he will give a ruling on the matter on December 15th.

“The defendant has not responded to the suit as agreed, we urge this court to give its judgment,” Karua’s judge Gitobu Imanyara said on Tuesday.

Karua argued that the allegations by Kuria damaged her personal credit and reputation as well as standing as a politician, business lady, family woman and a lawyer.

“The claims are scandalous, malicious, unwarranted and lowered my dignity among right thinking members of the society,” she said.
