Health CS Cleopa Mailu Orders Probe into Rape Allegations on Lactating Mothers at Kenyatta National Hospital

Health Cabinet secretary Cleopa Mailu has ordered a probe into allegations mothers who have just given birth being raped at the country's biggest referral hospital, Kenyatta National Hospital.

The Ministry of Health in a statement said the CS has instructed the facility's management to beef up security at the hospital as he awaits a report on the findings of the investigations.

“The CS has further ordered investigations into the matter; the KNH management and security agents will provide a report on the issue by Monday 22nd January 2018,” the ministry said.

Stories of mothers who had just given birth through Cesarean section alleging to have been sexually abused at the hospital by attendants hit headlines on Thursday evening, putting the facility on the spot. The hospital has refuted the allegations, saying no incident had been reported at the facility's police station, management or through the hospital's customer feedback platforms.
