Kenyan MPs Raise their Pension by 700 Per Cent

Kenyan Members of Parliament have raised their pension by 700 percent to Sh1.7 billion in the upcoming financial year that runs between July 1st, 2018 and June 2019.

This is in comparison to the Sh262 million paid out to the legislators in the current financial year, with the figure expected to rise to Sh2.7 billion by July 2020.

The increase in pension for the MPs is indicated in the National Budget estimates for 2018/19 released by the National Treasury last week.

The report further indicates that Kenyan taxpayers will shoulder over Sh15 billion in additional pensions during the next financial year, the biggest share going to the 196 Members of Parliament (MPs) who lost their seats in the last general elections.

“The total number of retirees is projected to rise from 19,300 in the current financial year to 19,800 in the 2018/2019 financial year,” stated Treasury in the budget statement tabled in Parliament last week.

It adds:“Consequently the total pension payments are projected to rise from the estimated Sh71.8 billion in the current financial year to Sh86 billion in the 2018/19 financial year and Sh104 billion in the following year.”

The additional allocation on pension follows last year's motion by Parliament to pay one-term MPs who failed to defend their seats in last years’ elections Sh18.8 million each in lieu of pension.

The wrath of God will get up with them soon or later. Martin Shkreli increased price of Daraprim from US$13.5 to US$750 per pill. Today he is enjoying his life in prison.

We live in the same country, affected by the same economic pressures. So why cannot the common mwananchi also get the same pension increase? Is not this what them Mpigs should be fighting for? Equality for all...
Its sickening. And worst. Wananchi appear to be least concerned. No wonder they love to elect these thieves. What a shame. What is in it for them?
This is money just being spent, and nothing coming in.LIke I said elsewhere, Iwould not say a word if them Mpigs were bringing in 3shillings for every shilling they spend.

As the MPs increase their salaries & pensions, let them remember they can never be more important than the counties they represent. Are they increasing those pensions from borrowed money or from money earned by the country. Why not use the increases to provide food security for all Kenyans. Why not use the money to provide jobs to the youth. To improve our education system, our health care. To build hospitals so they can stop writing their will to foreign hospitals. Just a thought, !!!

Where in the world does the employee determine the amount of money s/he should be paid? Other than Kenya, it is not found elsewhere. Kenyans you have to painfully and patiently bear the burden. You will drown in poverty because you elected conmen to lead in in looting government coffers while the president and his government hekos them from the franks. Why should we cry over corruption while legislators are with enthusiasm legislating theft in broad daylight? Why should foreign governments give us funds and loans when we can pay our legislators such perks as high as 700% pensions? Where is Uhuru in this? Where is RAO in this? Where is the voice of the church? Where is the wrath of the citizens of Kenya? Where are the foreign ambassadors in this? Silence, they say, is acceptance. If you make a hyena the shepherd of your sheep, you have no right to cry when your flock is exterminated.

Thieves, thieves, thieves. Thieves by servant. If the government, and the country keeps quiet about this plot to plunder our country, then we are all abetters in the crime and we are all culpable and guilty. If we don’t have money to pay teachers, our military and our health care workers, doctors and nurses decent wages, how come we have money to pay these so called legislators huge salaries and perks, yet the best job they know to do best is shout and come together only when they want to steal from the wananchi who elected them? When it comes to stealing they are always in unison. On other matters they differ. Why is this so? An increase of 700%. My God! Wamuchomba, can you direct each of them the number of wives he should marry? As for women legislators, how many orphans are you going to take off the streets? Wamuchomba, help us here.
