Three Governors, Two MPs to be Arrested over Graft Allegations

Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) says three sitting governors will be charged with graft-related charges next week.
EACC chief executive Halakhe Waqo said the three will face charges over procurement irregularities and abuse of office and will be charged alongside a former governor who lost his seat in the 2017 elections.
Speaking when he appeared before Senate’s Justice and Legal Affairs Committee, Waqo further noted that 20 other governors are under probe for corruption involving millions of shillings.
The CEO said two Principal Secretaries, two Members of Parliament and directors of parastatals will also be paraded in court and their files had been forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Waqo, who was accompanied by commission's chairman Eliud Wabukala, declined to disclose the identities of the governors, saying it would be prejudicial.
“Until we produce them in court, we can’t reveal their identities but I can promise you that we have a watertight case,” Waqo said.
“You will soon see governors in court. We are focused on counties this time because we have received a lot of complaints from members of the public over corruption at that level,” said Wabukala.
Waqo further defended the anti-graft commission against accusations of laxity and lethargy in prosecuting graft lords. He instead blamed the judiciary for failing to expedite corruption cases.
