Luo Elders Cry Foul as They're Locked Out of Former US President Barack Obama's Function

Members of the Luo Council of Elders have cried foul over refusal by organizers to invite them to a function that will be presided over by former United States President Barack Obama in Kogelo, Siaya county early next week.

Speaking to local media, the Council Secretary Mzee Adera Osawa said the elders have not been invited to the fete despite making requests to the organizers.

Osawa said the elders hope to anoint Obama like they did in 2006 ahead of his election as the US president.

“When we anointed him, we were sending our son to conquer the world, so we had expected him to come back so that we celebrate the victory,” said Osawa.

Sauti Kuu Foundation, a non-profit organization owned by Obama's sister Auma and whose project Obama will officially be opening on July 16th, said the event is a private invite-only affair.

“This is a big occasion to the Luo community and it was supposed to be open to us. It is sad that we have not had any communication from the organising committee to inform us of our place in the program,” said Osawa, adding that the elders had also planned to install Obama as a Luo community elder.

These luo elders are dressed like english landowners in the bygone days. What's up with them? Dress like Luo elders or stop pretending to be luo elders. You are just luo idlers.

Ms Obama I admire you for having the guts to stand up to these selfish, self-centered and lazy old men with their gonna gonya mentality. I doubt they even lifted a finger to help you with this project they claim it is theirs...No it is for the YOUTH of kogelo. The youth who have been reduced to stone throwers every five years. Those you call upon to carry twigs and burn shops and matatus every five years. The jobless youth you have used for years and years. The elders of Kenya have been a huge disappoinment, they have been in it only for themselves. Time is up, go milk the cows do not wait for your wives to do it.

Private invite only affair? Auma, you and your close friends and family shouldn't have Obama all to yourselves. Widen the tent, open your arms and embrace all that wishes you well. Obama can't be contained just within Lou community. When the sun shines it smiles to all equally. You should use Obama to pull all of us together because together-yes we can! These old men should be present. They just want to bask in the limelight a little and that's not too much to ask. Give them a call Auma.

Huyu Mwororo might be a worse idler than the so-called Luo elders. Why do you bother about a private family affair whereby no one can even invite you?Obama only recognizes his family and has nothing to do with you.You can go for lefovers after they leave ikiwa ni jaa inakusumbua.

The GVT Advised the Family due to status of Obama it is no longer a Private Visit/function the state is facilitating and involved. The least you can do is ignore the elders it can be a 5 minute or they be given a section as a symbol of cultural respect.Recognize their presence otherwise Omieri anaweza tokelezea kwa event and it will be total failure..just my imagination though

In what capacity are these Elders demanding to see Obama? What exactly do they do for the community, other than being older than most?Claiming Obama"is our son" has limitation.Milking every chance to see him makes you an opportunist. If the organizers whom, I think are very qualified in what they are doing deemed it necessary to invite the wazee,it would have been done. Also note that wazee invited themselves. May be they put in demands that would have wrecked the program.
