Serial Impostor Arrested in Nairobi with Fake National Intelligence Service ID, Firearms

Police in Nairobi have arrested a middle-aged man posing as a National Intelligence Service (NIS) officer.

The impostor was apprehended in Nairobi on Wednesday in possession of several fake identification cards from different government agencies.

The suspect identified Moses Muigai Ngugi had met Francis Mburu, a businessman at the centre of Sh1.5 billion Ruaraka land scandal, when he was arrested. Muigai had promised to help Mburu clear his name from the scam where several government ministries have been mentioned.

Muigai has allegedly been masquerading as a NIS, Kenya Bureau of Standards (Kebs), Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) and immigration official.

After the arrest, the suspect led officers to his apartment in Syokimau where two firearms, more than 700 rounds of ammunition and several ID cards were recovered.

Police said Muigai approached Mburu as a National Intelligence Service officer, prompting the businessman to alert police.

Nairobi Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss Nicholas Kamwende said the suspect is believed to have conned several Kenyans while posing as a state officer.

“We will interrogate him so that we can establish if he had been involved in other crimes and find how he got his gun licences,” said Kamwende.
