Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko Advertises Five Cabinet Positions

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has fired five members of his Cabinet after they allegedly failed to perform to his expectations.
Following the move, Sonko wrote to the County Public Service Board asking it to advertise five County Executive positions.
In an advertisement on its website, the Nairobi County Public Service Board invites applications for competent and qualified persons for the vacant posts.
The announcement says the county is looking for individuals who are competent in Economics, Commerce, Investment, Law, Engineering, Finance and Business Administration, as well as Natural Resources.
The board’s Chairman, Philip Kungu, said Sonko did not specify the ministerial positions that were vacant.
“We have a formal request from the governor. The governor gave a contract to the CEC members and the contract period has expired and so he wishes to recruit at least five of them competitively and that is the reason why we have advertised."
“He will seek to renew for the ones he wants and replace the others according to the advertisement. As for now I cannot speculate who they are or even the sector they represent,” Kungu told Nairobi News.
Last month, Sonko suspended Ms Veska Kangogo, who was in charge of both Health and Devolution dockets, over what he termed as insubordination.
“Let us not seek to be presumptuous. The governor can seek to replace all of them if he wants or any member he wishes. That is up to him. We really cannot question that because it is his prerogative,” said the board chair.
