Late Wambui Otieno's Widower Peter Mbugua, 40, Remarries 8 Years After Her Death

Peter Mbugua, the widower of the late Kenyan freedom fighter Wambui Otieno, who passed away eight years ago, has found love again.

Mbugua, 40, tied the knot with his partner Ann Wangari, 35, at a church wedding held in Nairobi on Monday.

The wedding ceremony was held at the Christian Foundation Fellowship Church on Bunyala Road and was officiated by Bishop Harrison Ng’ang’a.

Mbugua hit media headlines in 2003 after he married Ms. Wambui who was 67 years at the time. Mbugua was only 25.

Speaking to the Standard, Mbugua maintains he has never regretted his decision to marry Wambui.

“My first wedding was full of controversy after the death of my wife. As a human being, life has to continue and I am very focused on my life,” he says.

He also says he is happy in his current union, revealing that he already has three children with Wangari.

“I am very happy with my current family life. We are already blessed with three children and we are happily married," he explains.

Wangari has described Mbugua as a "real man and one in a million."

“I am very happy today for being officially married by Mbugua. He is a real man and one in a million,” says Wangari.

Wambui, who was also a politician and writer, succumbed to heart disease at the Nairobi Hospital on August 30th, 2011, aged 75.

Mbugua you are truly one in a million. You lost your mother and withstood lots of ridicule after marrying Wambui who was another woman of strong character. You are one brave man.Wacha waongee.
