Police Arrest Four Members of a Nairobi Drink-Spiking Gang

Detectives from Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested four people suspected to be members of a syndicate that steals from victims by spiking their drinks in nightclubs and other entertainment joints in Nairobi and its environs.
One of the suspects identified as Catherine Njanja Wangeci was arrested at Njakwa chemist located along Luthuli Avenue in Nairobi CBD. Police said Wangeci has been supplying the drugs used to spike levelers’ drinks to two women.
The second female suspect, whose identity was not disclosed, was apprehended in Linkea area in Nairobi’s Kahawa West estate. The other two suspects were identified as Joshua Murimi Ndegwa and Nelson Njoroge Wambui.
Police said Ndegwa and Njoroge would step in after victims were drugged and steal valuables or force them to surrender ATM pins, and then withdraw cash from their bank accounts. Popular Kenyan author Yvonne Adhiambo Oduor, is said to be one of the syndicate’s victims.
During the arrests, detectives recovered fake United States dollars, eight rounds of ammunition, a machete, two expensive watches and a collection of items suspected to have been stolen from drugged victims.
Police are still pursuing a fifth suspect, Charity Gachambi Njuguna, who remains at large.
