Nairobi Woman Rep Esther Passaris Undergoes Successful Spine Surgery

Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris says her spine surgery at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi was successful.

Passaris, who on Monday announced she was set to undergo a Medial Branch Block procedure to address recurrent pain on her back, said she spent a pain-free night after the operation.

"Thank God my operation went well. I had my first pain-free night in over two months. Thank you all for having my back, for your prayers and for wishing me well," Passaris said in a tweet on Tuesday.

She divulged that she will begin her physiotherapy on Tuesday to get fit following the surgical procedure.

The politician indicated that her problem dated back to 20 years ago when she gave birth to her son and got even worse after she fell down the stairs. Passaris noted that the pain persisted despite seeking medical attention locally and abroad.

Early this year, Passaris underwent a successful thyroidectomy surgery at Nairobi Hospital to remove goiter, which she had lived with for 10 years.

The first-term MP said she experienced breathing problems, choking while sleeping, memory loss as well as an increase in weight due to the condition.

"I will be on a medication called levothyroxine for the rest of my life to do what the thyroid usually does," she said at the time.

Good. At least she received her treatment locally. Until these leaders are "forced" to receive treatment in Kenya, our health facilities will remain in dismal conditions.
