DCI Sleuths Arrest Kenyan Masquerading as USAID Senior Official

A 29-year-old Kenyan man has been arrested for allegedly masquerading as an employee of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Paul Mwangi Njihia was nabbed by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Nairobi on Tuesday.

Njihia, a former computer technology student at a local university, is alleged to have defrauded unsuspecting members of the public while posing as the General Manager, USAID Rift Valley Region.

He is said to have solicited facilitation fees from Kenyans with a promise of securing them jobs at the US agency, according to the DCI.

“His job-seeking victims who were later issued with fake Gate Passes are reported to have sent a substantial amount as facilitation fees to a bank account linked to the suspect,” the DCI said in a statement.

The suspect is in lawful custody pending arraignment in court to face charges of obtaining money by false pretense and personation.
