Matungu MP Justus Murunga Makokha has passed away.
Murunga died while receiving treatment at St. Mary’s Mission Hospital in Mumias, Kakamega County on Saturday evening.
His cousin Musa Ekaya said the politician had been admitted at the Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu for Covid-19 and diabetes treatment for a week and was discharged on Friday.
“When he arrived at his Matungu home, his diabetic condition deteriorated and was rushed to St. Mary’s Hospital in Mumias, where he died today evening,” Ekaya told K24 Digital.
He said MP Murunga had returned negative Covid-19 results after admission at Aga Khan Hospital, which is why he was discharged.
His party leader Musalia Mudavadi is among leaders who have sent a message of condolences to the family of Murunga.
“I am deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Matungu MP Hon. Justus Murunga. I pray that God will grant his family strength during this unfortunate time. My most sincere condolences to his family and the people of Matungu,” Mudavadi said on Facebook.
Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya wrote: “Hon Justus Murunga was a hardworking & selfless leader whom we worked together closely to develop Matungu. I’m deeply saddened by his death which has robbed Kakamega a focused leader whose contribution in the development of our County will be missed. May his soul rest in peace.”
