Two Arrested After Police Raid an Illegal Donkey Abattoir in Kiambu

Police in Limuru, Kiambu County are holding two suspects after they were found in possession of donkey meat and skins.

Patrick Muiruri (29) and Elizabeth Wangeci (32) were arrested on Wednesday after a multi-agency team raided a five-acre forest in Ndeiya where the suspects are alleged to have been slaughtering the animals under unhygienic conditions before selling their meat to butcheries in Nairobi and Kiambu.

Police believe at least 100 donkeys are slaughtered inside the forest every night and the meat is distributed to local outlets.

During the operation, officers recovered donkey skins that had been lined up for export by the suspects.

Two vehicles believed to have been used to transport meat to Burma Market and other locations in Nairobi and Kiambu were also impounded.

Confirming the incident, Kiambu County Commissioner Joshua Nkanatha said police are pursuing other suspects who are still at large.

He noted that thousands of donkeys have been slaughtered, and their carcasses have spread over an area estimated to be about five hectares.

“We shall leave no stone unturned and my security team will ensure that the illegal activity is put to an end completely,” he said.

Public health officers in Kiambu have sought a court order allowing them to dispose of the recovered meat and donkey carcasses found at the scene.

Hundred donkeys slaughtered every night! How long has this been going on?
From a scientific point of view there is nothing wrong with eating donkey meat. Many people chomp on it...actually.
Certainly, the meat is a health risk if it does not go through the inspection process, and cleared for consumtion, just like we do other domestic animals we consume.
I read somewhere that donkey burgers sell like hot cakes in china, and the demand is going beyond their bounderies.
I guess, its just amatter of time before we start lining up for matumbo ya punda. All we have to do is legalize the process.
Personally, the beast of burden does not inspire consumption.I guess one could say that of many foods we consume. My two cents.

Nothing that happens in Kenya would shock anyone's conscience anymore. Remember Jesus Christ resurrected as a Bukusu and now lives in Tongaren Kakamega County and God lived with the same community as Jehovah Wanyonyi but unfortunately he died. Yes, you heard me; God died.

OOooooK!.That explains why prayers are not being answered. And why the sick are suffering in homes, and hospitals. It also explains why pastors do evil ACTS in church, and smile all the way to the bank.Thanks@ MakOnyango. I have been wondering why my gallon of water has not turned in to Pomerol despite incessant prayers.I now know why.
Actually, now it makes sense to say RIP
