342 Kenyans and Diplomats Evacuated from Sudan Arrive in Kenya
Two flights carrying a total of 342 evacuees arrived in Kenya from Sudan on Wednesday night, the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs confirmed.
The evacuees included Kenyan nationals and personnel of the United Nations, Agencies, the Diplomatic Corps, and International and Regional Organizations accredited to Nairobi, who were trapped in the Sudan conflict.
The ministry said their journey was organized by a special multi-agency team created to facilitate the evacuation of Kenyans affected in Khartoum.
The evacuees arrived from Khartoum through the port of Sudan by ferry to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and were flown into the country with two flights.
Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Co-operatives & Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Simon Chelugui and Principal Secretary of the state department for Diaspora Affairs Roseline Njogu received the evacuees at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Chelugui reiterated Kenya's commitment to ensuring the safe return of all Kenyans and other nationals that wish to return from Sudan to Kenya.
This was the second group of evacuees to arrive in the country after 39 students arrived in Nairobi on Tuesday aboard a military plane.
