Gachagua: Moses Kuria Will Not Be Fired

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has spoken up in defence of Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria who has been facing calls for his dismissal.
During the funeral of Field Marshal Muthoni Kirima in Nyeri County on Saturday, Gachagua spoke about the importance of unity and consolidation of the central Kenya vote in the next General Election. He acknowledged the difference in opinion but emphasized the region's commitment towards protecting their interests. Gachagua made it clear that he had corrected Kuria as his boss, but he had no intentions of exercising his ouster from cabinet.
At the funeral, he promised a proper farewell for Field Marshal Dedan Kimathi and addressed the rising living costs. Gachagua reminded citizens that the government is unable to control the steep hike in fuel prices, urging Kenyans not to hold the President responsible for the global issue. Also in attendance were Opposition leaders Kalonzo Musyoka and Eugene Wamalwa who called for unity and better care for Mau Mau war veterans. Wamalwa called for compensation and emphasized the need to improve the Heroes Act in Parliament. He remained optimistic that positive developments would emerge from ongoing bipartisan talks.
Kalonzo suggested leaders should maintain decorum in discussions regarding the cost of living. He reprimanded local leaders for disputing and undermining the bipartisan talks. Former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga called for reconciliation with DP Gachagua but Gachagua has refused on the grounds that Njenga has been involved in crime and violence, and wishes for Njenga to publicly denounce violent actions.
